As a lifelong fan of combat sports with a deep appreciation for 'the warriors' among us and throughout history, I’ve always been drawn to the spirit and toughness of those who stand against impossible odds. Spartans embody the essence of resilience, discipline, and unwavering courage - the same qualities I admire in modern day fighters who step into the ring or cage, and aspire to myself.

I chose to paint this piece in black and white to strip away distractions and focus purely on the raw intensity of the warrior’s presence. The splash of red is deliberate; it both symbolises the blood shed in combat and creates a bold composition.

This painting is my tribute to that warrior mindset, the relentless drive to push forward no matter the battle ahead. With every stroke of the brush and palette knife along with the sublimely rough textures, I've tried to capture the grit and dark struggle of the Spartan's battle.
